Confucius Institute Scholarship

For the purpose of supporting the development of Confucius Institutes, facilitating international promotion of Chinese language and dissemination of Chinese culture, as well as cultivating qualified Chinese-language teachers and excellent Chinese-language learners, Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban launches a “Confucius Institute Scholarship” program to sponsor foreign students, scholars and Chinese language teachers to study Chinese in relevant universities of China.

(1) Scholarship Coverage
a) Tuition
b) Accommodation fees on campus
c) Monthly living allowance (except Four-Weeks-Scholarship students)
d) CNY 2,500 for Bachelor’s Degree Students ,One-Academic-Year Students and One-Semester Students, CNY 3,000 for Master’s Degree Students
a) Insurance for foreign students studying in China

(2) Requirements of applying for CI Scholarship
a) Non-Chinese citizens
b) Aged between 16 and 35 (Chinese language teachers in post shall be aged below 45, and applicants for BTCSOL scholarship
should be aged below 20)

(3) Requirements of HSK and HSKK scores
a) Provide official report of HSK,HSKK test

(4) Application Procedure
a) Between March and June of each year, applicants shall go to the CI Scholarship website at http://cis.chinese.cn, apply for CIS id,
fill in the application form, and attach with some documents of proof
b) Confucius Institutes/Independent Classrooms, or Embassies (Consulate-General) of China, or China host institutes shall log on the website at http://cic.chinese.cn, take the applications and make recommendations based on performance of the applicants
c) Eligibility of applicants are reviewed by the host institutes, and nominations are submitted to the Headquarters
d) Eligibility of applicants are reviewed by the host institutes, and nominations are submitted to the Headquarters
e) CI Headquarters will organize an expert panel to make the final selection, and the applicants can check the results on
cis.chinese.cn at the end of June

(5) Other Documentation
a) Photocopy of the passport (the page with holder’s photo)
b) Teachers of Chinese should provide proof of years of teaching and weekly teaching hours issued by organizations in which they
work
c) Official report of HSK, HSKK test
d) Notarized photocopy of highest diploma and official transcripts. Notarized photocopy of highest diploma is required for both one-
year academic program applicants and M.A. TCSOL program applicants. M.A. TCSOL program applicants shall also provide
official transcripts
e) Letter of Recommendation. M.A. TCSOL program applicants should submit letters of recommendation (both in Chinese and
English) from two associate professors
f) Applicants under the age of 18 should submit the legal documents of their legal guardians in China
g) Written Commitment. M.A. TCSOL program applicants must sign a commitment promising to fulfill a five-year Chinese teaching
service after graduation
h) Proof of prize-winners and CI Scholarship Certificate from organizer of Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for
college and middle school students
