The Mike Meeks Scholarship Fund
He was a man from humble beginnings, but through education and hard work David Michael Meeks was able to achieve great success. He himself a recipient of educational scholarships, Meeks graduated from Lambuth University in Jackson, Tennessee, where he went on to a teaching position at Eastern Kentucky University in the Finance Department. Knowing the value of hard work, one of his many summer jobs was as a front desk clerk at the local Holiday Inn. Holiday Inn wasted no time recognizing his talents and promoted him to general manager quickly. After moving to Memphis in 1975 to take a full time position with Holiday Inn, Meeks spent his career advancing within the company, ultimately becoming president of Holiday Corporation and later Promus Companies.
Supporting the dreams of others was something that came naturally to Mr. Meeks, as is evident by his decision to fund this scholarship. It was important to him to pave the way for the most talented individuals, demonstrating strong interest and achievement in the field of hospitality, to secure their place at the UofM at the Kemmons Wilson School of Hospitality and Resort Management.
Impact
This scholarship means to me that there are people still out in this world who truly care about college students. You want students to succeed in whatever their desires are and I really appreciate that.
