John DeCleux Memorial Scholarship

John DeCleux Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was generously funded by Robert Wampler in memory of his brother John DeCleux. Robert Wampler, a double graduate of the University of Memphis, graduated in 1972 from law school and in 1969 with a BBA in Business Management. Currently a partner at Wampler and Pierce, P.C., he has built a successful practice focused on domestic relations and contract litigation.
John DeCleux was a 1982 graduate of the journalism department. Before his death in 1999, DeCleux worked at AM 560 KWTO in Springfield, MO and prior to that WHBQ in Memphis, TN. A former colleague once described DeCleux as “a person of high moral character, integrity, ethical, and honest. Though we didn’t always agree with his opinion, he had to be respected for his forthrightness. Where some people scoffed at my experience, John examined every piece of material thoroughly. His journalistic background led him to further investigate the sworn statement, and polygraph, which indicated the truth. However, John was not satisfied with just these facts. He had to see it with his eyes, hold it in his hands, and perform a few basic experiments of his own. He left nothing to the imagination.”

Impact

This scholarship literally means the world to me. College is expensive and to take so much off my mother’s shoulders touches me. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
